Consultation – 30 Mins

In this consultation you are guaranteed a minimum of 30 minutes of advice directly from an expert barrister. Often this advice will provide you with everything you need to continue alone. Property matters are dealt with in a County Court or, for more compelx matters, in the High Court.

County Court Fees

County Courts are where the majority of property matters are heard. There are vast amounts of codes, regulations and procedures that should be properly understood if victory is to be achieved and instructing an expert barrister is recommended.

 
£160/£80 per hour - Case preparation involves drafting witness statements, skeleton arguments, grounds of appeal, orders and communications with the opposition or courts. Case preparation is the most crucial aspect of victory in court. £160 will be charged for each hour a barrister is required to work on your case and £80 per hour a legal assistant is required. Open Counsel provides services of accredited Public Access Barrister which means that members of public do not need to go to a family solicitor to instruct a barrister. We will inform you up-front how many hours will be required so that a fixed quote is provided before work begins
£400 - Directions hearings are very important to the outcome of cases as they often determine what types of evidence are to be admitted before a full hearing and how costs are to be managed. This quote includes representation at the hearing plus 1 hour case preparation. If more than 1 hour is required then this will be calculated before the fee is agreed.
£700 - Many full hearings will be listed for half a day and will likely include examination and cross examination of witnesses and closing speeches. Our fee includes representation at the hearing plus 2 hours case preparation. If more than 2 hours is required then this will be calculated before the fee is agreed. 
£1000 - Full hearings are often listed for a full day where there are several witnesses and closing speeches to get through. This fee includes representation at the hearing plus 3 hours case preparation. If more than 3 hours is required then this will be calculated before the fee is agreed.

High Court Fees

The high court is used for high value or complex civil claims and for judicial reviews against government decisions. Due to the increased seriousness of high court cases a greater level of expertise and legal research is demanded. Open Counsel provides a barrister with solid experience of drafting grounds and advocating within the high court.

£175/Hour - Case preparation involves drafting witness statements, skeleton arguments, grounds of appeal, orders and communications with the opposition or courts. £175 / Hour – When challenging a government decision at the high court the claim must be accompanied with grounds for judicial review. These grounds are required to be in a particular format and require real expertise to strengthen the prospects of victory. Drafting grounds can take from anywhere between 2 – 6 hours depending on the complexity.
£650 – Cases are often listen in the high court for 1 hour only. However, they are often complicated matters which require extensive legal research and expertise. This quote includes 2 hours of case preparation. If your hearing requires longer then this will be calculated extra before the fee agreed.
£1000 – Representing in the high court requires a greater degree of sophistication in legal argument and more thorough research. This quote includes 3 hours of case preparation time. If your hearing is likely to require more time then this will be calculated as extra before a fee is agreed.
£1800 - Representing in the high court requires a greater degree of sophistication in legal argument and more thorough research. This quote includes 4 hours of case preparation time. If your hearing is likely to require more time then this will be calculated as extra before a fee is agreed.
